Modern working parents face unprecedented pressure to balance professional performance with family wellbeing — and workplaces that fail to recognise this are paying the price in burnout, turnover, and lost talent. In this engaging and thought-provoking session, Psychotherapist Laura Greenwood and Helen Saunders, People Director at Clarion Solicitors, explore what good parental support truly looks like in today’s workplace. Through real-life stories, evidence-based insights, and practical examples, they’ll highlight how compassionate, flexible, and inclusive policies not only strengthen family wellbeing but also drive business performance. Delegates will leave with actionable ideas to create environments where parents — and in turn, organisations — can thrive. Learning Outcomes: By the end of this session, delegates will be able to: 1. Recognise the key challenges working parents face and their impact on mental health and performance. 2. Identify practical, evidence-informed approaches to supporting parents in the workplace. 3. Understand the business benefits of embedding a culture that values and supports family wellbeing. 4. Take away actionable ideas to implement within their own organisations.

It is 20 years since Waddell and Burton produced their seminal review on the relationship between work and health. It is, therefore, timely to ask whether their statement - 'work is generally good for health and wellbeing' - remains true and relevant. This session will take a look back to why the review was commissioned, what it reported, and whether current evidence supports its key findings. The panel will then discuss what changed following its publication, how policy was (or was not) influenced, what related initiatives were implemented and, importantly, what tricks were missed. Questions will be asked around how the underlying concepts should be woven into interventions needed to support work ability for people with health problems and disability, how those interventions might be implemented, and what additional concepts need to be included or sought. The session will conclude with the panel's set of recommendations for future policy.Speakers

In this powerful session we will explore how the principles that give organisations purpose and cohesion can also create hidden pressures affecting staff wellbeing. When people care deeply about their organisation’s values, they can become more susceptible to emotional strain and moral discomfort when those values are tested or inconsistently upheld. Drawing on emerging research in organisational psychology and wellbeing, this session examines how values-driven cultures can unintentionally foster burnout or disengagement and offers practical strategies to overcome this. Participants will:
1. Understand how organisational values can both support and undermine wellbeing.
2. Recognise the emotional costs of caring deeply about organisational purpose.
3. Explore evidence-informed approaches to reduce value-related stress and sustain healthy engagement.
