When Generations Collide: Managing a Multigenerational Workforce Well
As workplaces become increasingly multigenerational, many organisations are experiencing friction - not because generations are incompatible, but because expectations of work, wellbeing, and management are shifting faster than leadership models. Drawing on insights from the Youth Voice Census, this session explores how generational tension shows up in day-to-day management, particularly for managers navigating the needs of younger employees alongside organisational pressures.
Through an honest panel discussion, the session reframes generational friction as a leadership and systems challenge, not an age-based one. It asks what young people’s experiences of work reveal about management capability, wellbeing, and culture - and how supporting managers more effectively can improve outcomes for all generations in the workplace.
Learning Outcomes:By the end of this session, delegates will:
- Understand where generational friction most commonly arises in today’s workplaces and why.
- Gain insight from the Youth Voice Census into how young people experience management, wellbeing, and workplace culture.
- Recognise the pressures facing managers leading multigenerational teams, particularly those positioned between senior leadership and younger staff.
- Identify practical ways organisations can better support managers to reduce friction, improve wellbeing, and lead more effectively across generations.
