This session explores practical approaches to supporting employees who are working whilst living with persistent pain. Focusing on how physiotherapists and workplace health professionals can optimise work participation and performance, Katie Knapton will demonstrate how developing better self-management strategies enables employees to sustain meaningful employment. Drawing on real-world experience working with large organisations, the session emphasises the importance of understanding the bi-directional relationship between health and work, and provides actionable tools that delegates can implement immediately to help working individuals manage their pain more effectively. Learning Outcomes: By the end of this session, delegates will be able to: Understand the impact of persistent pain on work capacity and productivity, and the reciprocal effects of work on pain management Apply practical self-management tools, including pacing, goal-setting, and action planning to support employees in sustaining their work roles Implement simple communication strategies to support working individuals with persistent pain without getting stuck in complexity Recognise the role of meaningful work in pain self-management and how better pain management enables continued employment Develop collaborative approaches that empower employees to actively participate in managing their persistent pain while maintaining work performance and wellbeing.
