Understanding the Role of Cultural Competence in Work and Health Assessments

Cultural competence is an important part of the biopsychosocial model which OH should use within their assessment. The assessment looks at the obstacles to remaining in or returning to work, as well as presenteeism, of which culture may impact. How, taking into account culture can reduce obstacles within work and how managers can be supported to support their employees. Case studies are included.

Learning outcomes for delegates:

  • Delegates will be able to describe cultural competence
  • They will be able to explain the importance of including culture in the use of the biopsychosocial model
  • OH clinician delegates will be able to incorporate cultural competence in their work
  • HR and management will be better informed on the impact of culture on work and health
  • HR and management will be able to utilise this knowledge in their discussions with employees and referrals to OH
