Opened in 2012, the Leicester Diabetes Centre (LDC) is the UK’s largest clinical research centre for diabetes and a world-renowned leader in diabetes research and education. It is led by Professors Melanie Davies and Kamlesh Khunti, two of the world’s top ten diabetes experts. Together they co-lead the Diabetes Research Centre, one of the UK’s most impactful clinical research groups, recognised globally for empirical research, clinical trials, ethnic health, real-world evidence and 24-hour physical behaviours.
LDC translates robust research into high-quality education and training programmes for healthcare professionals and for people living with, or at risk of, diabetes and other long-term conditions.
Based at Leicester General Hospital, LDC is a unique NHS and academia partnership, built on collaboration between University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and the University of Leicester, bringing clinicians, researchers and academics together to improve care.
