Building Cultural Competence and Intelligence at Work
In increasingly diverse workplaces, cultural competence and intelligence are essential to effective leadership, collaboration and organisational performance. This session explores how employers can move beyond cultural awareness to develop the understanding, skills and behaviours needed to navigate differences, challenge assumptions, build trust and create inclusive working environments. Drawing on evidence and practical good practice experience, it will examine how organisational culture, leadership and everyday people management shape employees’ experiences and opportunities. Learning outcomes for delegates: - Understand cultural competence and intelligence and their relevance to leadership, collaboration and organisational effectiveness. - Recognise how assumptions, bias, cultural differences and organisational practices can affect communication, inclusion and trust - and consequently colleague and organisational performance. - Apply practical approaches to strengthen cultural intelligence, manage differences constructively and build inclusive workplace cultures. - Evaluate how employers can respond to the anti-EDI backlash through evidence-led, legally sound and outcomes-focused action. - Identify practical steps to embed cultural competence and inclusion into leadership, people management and organisational decision-making.
